India bans sugar exports until September 2026

India has banned the export of sugar immediately until September 30, 2026, or until further orders, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The export policy for raw sugar, white sugar and refined sugar has been changed from 'Restricted' to 'Prohibited'.

Exemptions are allowed for exports to the European Union and the United States under existing agreements. Shipments already in the export pipeline and those with shipping bills filed before the ban will be allowed to proceed.
