India food inflation rises to 7.74% in September 2026

India’s year-on-year food inflation rose to 7.74% in September 2026, from 5.97% in August. Onion prices more than doubled over the previous 12 months.

Onion inflation reached 108.09% in September, up sharply from 48.78% in August. Rural food inflation was higher than urban, with rural headline inflation at 6.08% compared to 4.88% in cities.
