India leads in generic drug exports

India is now the world's top producer and exporter of high-quality, low-cost generic drugs. The Patents Act of 1970 and the 2005 Patents (Amendment) Act helped this growth happen.

Pharmaceutical exports from India are governed by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). Exporters must comply with key requirements like obtaining an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), a valid manufacturing license, and an Export No-Objection Certificate (NOC) via the CDSCO SUGAM portal.
